Te Tai Tokerau Climate Action Declaration

WE, THE PARTICIPANTS AND SUPPORTERS OF THE TE TAI TOKERAU CLIMATE CHANGE ACTION CONFERENCE, WHANGAREI, 8-9 JUNE 2018:

a. Believing wholeheartedly that climate crisis is the most serious, potentially existential , threat of our Time for Te Tai Tokerau and all of humanity;

b. Deeply appreciating the compelling science demonstrating that climate crisis is man-made, and therefore that we bear the responsibility to mitigate its worst effects; and

c. Greatly inspired by the “Drawdown” project – “the most comprehensive plan ever proposed to reverse global warming”:-
CALL FOR A PROGRESSIVE WHOLE OF SOCIETY RESPONSE TO CLIMATE CRISIS TO BE ACTIONED WITH ALL DUE HASTE , INCLUDING:

1. Full commitment across all civil society in Te Tai Tokerau to the development of ambitious, effective climate crisis mitigation and adaptation strategic planning, and its urgent implementation;
2. Good faith , lively engagement with Te Tai Tokerau leadership in this space by central and local government – especially by the Climate Change Minister and related Agencies – business and industry , and other key actors in the private and public sector; and, in particular
3. Meaningful support and resourcing by the Government and Business and Industry sectors for the realization of our Te Tai Tokerau climate crisis response plans.
