Iceland

Iceland was first colonised by Vikings in AD 871. This paper reports that the degradation of soils happened very quickly following  human settlement. I had the impression that Iceland was too cold for trees, but this video reports on the regeneration of Icelandic landscapes, including re-establishing woodlands.
