Action Plan (2019)

Tai Tokerau Climate Action Plan 2019 – 2030

Version 1: August 2019 (download pdf version)

Imagine this. We have dodged the climate crisis bullet. We have arrived at 2030 and there is sufficient evidence that humanity has made meaningful progress with achieving zero greenhouse gas emissions to optimise civilisation’s survival.

This plan promotes action to mitigate the climate emergency. There are a wide range of actions we can all take to slow down and ultimately reverse global warming. We do this for our children and our mokopuna.

Our plan…

– Is community led, engaging people and their whanau, businesses, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), schools, local government and government agencies.

– Is based on the partnership embedded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

– Is crowd-sourced and has space for everyone’s contribution.

– Is action focussed.

– Currently focuses on building awareness about the sense of urgency and opportunities, and creating the infrastructure for mobilising action.

The time for long-winded deliberations is over. The climate emergency is happening all around us.

We have lots of options for action. Did you know…?

The Drawdown Project’s third ranked solution to climate emergency mitigation is reducing food waste (after refrigerant management and onshore wind turbines). In Tai Tokerau, a network of people in the food system, such as Golden Mile Packhouse, Whakaora Kai, and Food for Life work to reduce food waste and redistribute kai to people who need it.
