Is this the speech of the century (so far)? Greta Thunberg, from Sweden, addressed the COP 24 at Katowice, Poland. She was 15 years old at the time.
Greta’s direct communication might be attributed to diagnoses of Asperger’s, OCD and selective mutism. She first came to global attention when she went on strike in front of the Swedish Parliament protesting climate change. She inspired many other students around the world including young Australians.
To me, these words, from her COP 24 speech are as powerful as any by Winston Churchill or Martin Luther King.
The year 2078, I will celebrate my 75th birthday. If I have children maybe they will spend that day with me. Maybe they will ask me about you. Maybe they will ask why you didn’t do anything while there still was time to act. You say you love your children above all else, and yet you are stealing their future in front of their very eyes.
What do you think?
Here is more about Greta’s story.
