CAtherine Murupaenga-Ikenn at the U.N.

Climate Change Tai Tokerau Northland Trustee, Catherine Murupaenga-Ikenn is back from the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. Catherine was invited to join a panel that spoke in the UN General Assembly Hall last week to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the Outcome Document from the Worlds Conference on Indigenous Peoples. Here is the link to the official UN media video recording. Here is Catherine’s statement to the Forum.

This year’s session theme focused on “Enhancing Indigenous Peoples’ right to self-determination in the context of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples: emphasizing the voices of Indigenous youth.”

Here is a live interview with Catherine at the event.

Among Catherine’s initiatives at the forum was advocating for an International Day of the Arts.
